ZM9 extension file is a compressed file of ZIP format which is renamed for MailSafe, an email security program that is included with the ZoneAlarm software.

The ZM9 file is usually received as a ZIP email attachment and is quarantined by MailSafe (This is where it is renamed) to make sure it does not contain any viruses or malicious code.
Since ZM9 files are renamed ZIP files, they can be opened by a standard ZIP decompression program simply by changing the ZM9 extension to ZIP.
