Open ZDB File

ZDB extension files are files that can take on various formats and applications, depending on the software that created them, some of which are below:

Zimbra Database File

In this first case, a ZDB file is a type of email data file created by the Zimbra Connector for Microsoft Outlook (ZCO).

This connector is an Outlook plugin used to manage Zimbra email accounts.

Due to licensing and copyright issues, the file is saved in the Outlook PST format but uses the ZDB extension instead.

However, despite the above, the ZDB file can be imported into an Outlook profile by first changing the file extension to PST

ZDB files are named zimbra.zdb by default.

EPSQ Database

In this case, the ZDB file is an encrypted file format used by the US military and Department of Defense.

The US Department of Defense is in charge of coordinating and supervising all government agencies and functions directly related to national security and the US Armed Forces.

The US Department of Defense has a structured system of security levels, called 'clearance level', whose purpose is to allow an individual access to classified national security information.

There are three levels of security clearance: confidential, secret, and top secret.

The ZDB file serves as the Electronic Personal Safety Questionnaire (EPSQ).

However, the ZDB file is most often used for the Standard Form (SF) 86 Questionnaire, which is used by military personnel, government employees, and government contractors to request a security clearance, for a third party.

It is important to note that the Department of Defense does not allow an applicant to apply, through a ZDB, for themselves.
