Open XPI File

XPI file extension is used by XPInstall (cross-platform install) files. These files are most commonly used to distribute plugin extensions for Mozilla Firefox web-browser. To open XPI file just drag it into Firefox web-browser window. This will install a plugin located in XPI file

Normally XPI file is a ZIP archive that contains a number of other files in compressed format. Usually one of these files is install.js that contains main install script. These may also be other files that are referenced by this script. So if you want to open XPI file and view what is inside, you can just rename it to ZIP and open it using any unarchiver.

Since installer packages can change system configuration and install additional executable modules they can be used to spread computer viruses and trojans. We recommend that you only install packages from trusted sources and have up-to-data antivirus software running at all time.
