Open PRX File
PRX files, up to now, have three different types of uses, namely:
PlayStation Portable
The PRX file is a data file used to update the firmware on the PlayStation Portable PSP.
The PRX can be used to update firmware when the firmware has been customized and can be included with factory firmware dumps.
The PRX file is often used to add additional functions, such as:
- Enable screenshots
- Flash support to web browser
Primavera P3
In this application, the PRX file is a project planning file created by Primavera P3, a project planning software used mostly for construction projects.
Said PRX file, in this application, saves a collection of P3 files but in a compressed format.
The PRX is used for the purpose of sharing project plans with other Primavera P3 users.
It is important to mention that Primavera P3 was originally developed by Primavera Systems, which was acquired by Oracle. The P3 software, originally released in 1994, was discontinued on December 31, 2010, therefore both the software and the PRX format are obsolete.
Windows Media
For Microsoft Windows and Windows Media multimedia programs, the PRX file is an XML file used to publish digital video files.
The PRX stores the audio and video codecs to be used, as well as the bit rates and the target language.
Note that the PRX is not a video file, therefore it is not considered a multimedia file.
Open a PRX file
PRX files are referenced (and therefore can be opened) by various Microsoft Windows programs, including Windows Media Player, Windows Media Encoder, and Windows Live Movie Maker.
Edit a PRX file
PRX files can be edited using the Windows Media Profile Editor, which is included with the Windows Media Encoder installation.
Starting with Windows Media Player version 9 and later, media profiles are supported.
