Open MMF File

The MMF file extension is associated with the SMAF file extension, or Synthetic Music Mobile Application Format. These files are known for their close association with mobile phones and the ringtones they play. Yamaha first developed the SMAF tools for sound files to provide exclusive ringtones for mobile phones. However, the format has been adapted and can now contain information related to text and graphics.

The MMF and SMAF nomenclatures should not be confused. The difference between the two is that MMF represents the name of the file extension, while SMAF represents the name of the file. An MMF file is similar to the MIDI type, but it includes sound and graphics into the playing of the file.
