Minecraft
In this first case, the MCR file is a type of game file used by Minecraft, a sandbox block-building game.
About Minecraft
Minecraft is a sandbox-type video game developed by Mojang Studios, in the Java programming language, for which, since then, Minecraft has been ported to several other platforms, thus becoming the best-selling video game of all time.
The MCR file contains a 32x32 region of a Minecraft world, and is used to store "chunks" of the world.
MCR files were introduced with Minecraft Beta 1.3 and were later superseded by the MCA format.
Before the MCR format, DAT files were used.
Tecplot Macro
In this section, the MCR is a type of macro file used by Tecplot, a program used for scientific calculation and visualization.
About Tecplot
Tecplot is, in short, a family of visualization and mathematical analysis software tools.
It was developed by the American company Tecplot, Inc., based in Bellevue, Washington.
The MCR saves instructions that automate the calculation and data visualization workflow, and allows repetitive tasks to be executed automatically.
3DS Max
In this section, the MCR file is a script written for 3DS Max, a 3D modeling, animation, rendering, and effects program.
About 3DS Max
The full name is Autodesk 3DS Max, formerly 3D Studio Max, is a professional 3D computer graphics program for making 3D animations, models, games and images.
As its name suggests, it is developed and produced by Autodesk Media and Entertainment.
The MCR file can automate common action processes within the program, with functionality similar to an MS extension MAXScript file, but is generated by newer versions of 3ds Max.
ePSXe Memory Card File
In the latter case, the MCR extension dce file is a type of file used by ePSXe or another variant of PlayStation emulation software.
The MCR contains game save information from games played with the emulator, and simulates the functionality of a PlayStation memory card, and is sometimes used to share ePSXe save games over the Internet.
