Open ID2 File

The file format and extension, ID2, is a type of file used by Windows Live Messenger (WLM), which was an online chat program.

The ID2 contains metadata such as the smiley name and keyboard shortcut, and is used in combination with an associated DT2 image file to display a smiley.

The ID2 file can be used to create custom emoticons.

ID2 files are encrypted and decrypted using a WLM user's Passport User ID.

ID2 files often have cryptic names because they are named automatically using a hash of the DT2 file.

Software to open an ID2 file

The only software enabled to open and work with an ID2 file is Windows Live Messenger, which is discontinued.
