The DVR file extension is used for a type of video file created by Windows Media Center, a Windows program that can record and play television shows.

Windows Media Center is a native Microsoft program for its Windows operating system, introduced in the year 2002, with Windows XP.

Windows Media Center is no longer developed and is discontinued.

The DVR extension file contains the information of the television program, the recorded time and the video itself.

DVR file is basically a media container that saves video encoded in MPEG-2 format, and is used to watch recorded TV shows.

Programs recorded by Windows Media Center most commonly use the DVR extension but with MS added to the end.
