Open DISPOSITION-NOTIFICATION File
DISPOSITION-NOTIFICATION, is also known as the Message Disposition Notification (MDN) protocol and was developed by Microsoft Corporation.
The DISPOSITION-NOTIFICATION file stores data for Message Disposition Notification, a protocol that allows the sender of any message to view various conditions that may occur after message delivery, such as printing, message viewing, deletion, forwarding, etc.
That is, it keeps the sender of a message informed of what actions were taken with said message once it was delivered.
Some of the characteristics of the MDN protocol:
- Inform humans of the disposition of messages after they have been successfully delivered.
- Allow monitoring of the disposition of sent messages.
- Transmit disposition notification requests and notifications between intersystem Internet mail.
- Allow notifications from foreign systems to be channeled through a MIME
- Allow language independent but reasonably accurate indications of the disposition of a message to be delivered.
The protocol itself is not a file or a file type, but it does generate a log of all notifications issued and that are sent to the sender.
