Open DIR File

A DIR file extension comes from the Adobe Director software and contains a movie or animation project created by that software.

Adobe Director was an application that was used to create multimedia games and online learning courses through the creation of executables rich in multimedia resources. At the time it was considered one of the tools with the most development power and resources for digital media due to the versatility of integration of audio, video and 3D resources, all in a single application.

The DIR file extension, in this case, contains a project, which includes resources, links to external reference files, scripting code, and the timeline, which determines how the movie plays.

Adobe Director objects and projects (DIR File) could only be opened with the version of Director that the file was created with, or a newer version at any rate.

Adobe Director, which was previously known as Macromedia Director, acquired by Adobe in 2005 was discontinued and disabled in 2017.
