Open CPC File
A CPC extension file is a bitmap image compressed using the Cartesian Perspective Compression algorithm, hence the acronym CPC.
What is the Cartesian Perceptual Compression algorithm?
It refers to a coding procedure that aims to represent a certain amount of information using a smaller amount of it, making an exact reconstruction of the original data impossible.
This is because instead of saving an exact copy, only an approximation is saved.
This approach takes advantage of the limitations of human perception to hide the distortion introduced.
The compression method, therefore, used for CPC files is lossy, but the output file size is typically 20 to 50 times smaller than TIFF files.
This CPC format is designed to compress 1-bit raster images, such as black-and-white photographs and line art.
CPC is often used to compress monochrome designs, legal documents, and other types of scanned text files.
View a CPC file
The CPC View browser plugin can be used to open and view CPC files within a web browser, eg Chrome.
As they are image files, CPC files can also be converted to other more common formats, such as JPG, PNG, and more.
